With 448 new cases, Nepal’s COVID-19 tally crosses 5000 mark

KATHMANDU, June 12: Nepal has reported 448 new cases of COVID-19 cases in the last 24 hours. With this, the total number of infected people has climbed to 5,062. Of the total confirmed cases, 4,709 are males and 353 are females.  

Of the newly-diagnosed COVID-19 patients, 424 are males while 24 are females, according to Dr Jageshwar Gautam, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health and Population. It is the highest single-day spike of COVID-19 confirmation in the country since the first case was reported on January 24.

According to the Health Ministry, nine people tested positive at Biratnagar Hospital, ten at TU Teaching Hospital, Kathmandu and eight others at Bharatpur Hospital, Chitwan.

Similarly, a lab at Patan Hospital reported one COVID-19 case while 31 new cases were diagnosed at the Dharan-based BP Koirala Institute of Health Sciences.

Seventeen, 37 and 16 new cases were identified at Koshi Hospital, Provincial Public Health Laboratory, Pokhara and Bheri Hospital respectively. Similarly, 32 people tested positive at the Teku-based Shukraraj Tropical and Infectious Disease Hospital, 23 at the Provincial Public Health Laboratory, Jankapur and eight others at Dhulikhel Hospital.

Rapti Academy of Health Sciences (8), Provincial Lab, Surkhet (83) and Provincial Public Health Laboratory, Rupandehi (8) are among the newly-confirmed cases on Friday.

Teku-based National Public Health Laboratory alone reported 141 new cases of COVID-19 during the lab tests in the last 24 hours.

As of Friday afternoon, a total of 877 patients have recovered and returned home, while 16 others have succumbed to this disease.
