Former Prime Minister Giri passes away
Former Prime Minister Dr Tulsi Giri passed away on Tuesday. He was 93. Giri breathed his last at Budhanilkantha-based residence in the capital, family sources said. Giri had been suffering from liver cancer for a long time. He was discharged from Medicity hospital after treatment on Saturday. Giri had a long political career. He served as the first prime minister of Nepal when the then King Mahendra imposed the party-less Panchayat political system back in 1960.

Senior leader of the Indian National Congress Shakeel Ahmad Monday blamed the "arrogance" of the Modi-led Indian government for Nepal's ban on currency notes of denominations higher than Rs 100 and demanded that urgent steps be taken to resolve the issue, the Press Trust of India reported. The ban was causing great inconvenience to the people living along the Indo-Nepal border, the former Indian Union minister said.
