KATHMANDU, Apr 2: As many as 63 mountaineers received permits to climb Mt Everest, the world's tallest peak, for this year's spring season. According to the Department of Tourism, 13 women and 50 men from five different expedition teams took the permits till Monday.

MYAGDI, May 17: Two nationals from Poland have successfully climbed the Dhaulagiri Mountain. The peak (8,167 meters) is the seventh highest peak in the world. With this, the peak recorded the first climbing of this season.

KATHMANDU, Dec 1: The Department of Tourism, by issuing mountain climbing permits in the fall of this year, has collected twice as much revenue in the season this year as that of last year. The department collected Rs 40.6 million in the same season last year. This year the department has collected Rs 93 million rupees.

KATHMANDU, March 31: Minister for Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation, Prem Bahadur Ale has said that the government has collected Rs 1 billion in royalties and renewal fees of casinos and other hotel business fees. He said the licenses of three casinos that refused to pay the royalty were revoked.

KATHMANDU, March 25: The Department of Tourism (DoT) has given an ultimatum of five days to three casinos that have not paid their arrears to the government. The DoT has given an ultimatum to the three casinos to pay their dues of Rs 900.5 million within five days.

KATHMANDU, Sept 7: Mountaineers are found attracted to scale the 8,163-metre-tall Mount Manaslu this autumn. The Department of Tourism has granted permission to 160 climbers of 16 expedition teams to climb Mt Manaslu.

KATHMANDU, Aug 27: The Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation has sought clarifications from 15 Liaison Officers (LOs) who allegedly produced expedition reports without hitting the base camp when they were assigned as LOs for Everest expeditions in this year's spring season. Of the 37 LOs deployed for managing Everest expedition, 15 were found pocketing the government-provided funds without reaching the base camp and submitting the reports, as reported by the expedition companies.

KATHMANDU, Nov 5: Trekking Agencies' Association of Nepal (TAAN) along with Nepal Tourism Board (NTB) and Department of Tourism (DoT) has requested the Ministry of Culture, Tourism and Civil Aviation to make it mandatory for trekkers to take at least a guide or porter with them.
