PM says TJ appointments in a week

KATHMANDU, Aug 19: Prime Minister KP Oli on Sunday said that commissioners for the transitional justice (TJ) bodies will be appointed within a week.

KATHMANDU, Aug 3: As part of efforts to make the process of appointing commissioners for the transitional bodies (TJ) acceptable to all, the recommendations committee formed by the government is to consult stakeholders including the government itself and finalize the relevant laws before recommending any names for commissioners. International rights bodies and the conflict victims have called for suspending the ongoing commissioners' recommendations process and for first ensuring that the law is in place to ensure justice for the victims.

KATHMANDU, March 16: The Transitional Justice (TJ) bodies are likely to be left without any commissioners, at least for a certain period after mid-April, given the government’s delay in forming a recommendations committee as provisioned by law. Mid-April is when the terms of the commissioners expire.

Chief Election Commissioner Dr. Ayodhee Prasad Yadav and four other commissioners have been making a live observation of the election taking place in 32 districts of the country today.

Commissioners divided over local units

KATHMANDU, Oct 19: The task of restructuring the local units under the new federal system is getting tougher as members of the commission formed to restructure the local units are divided over considering Ilakas as a basis for the restructuring. As a result, the commission has not been able to come up with a new number of local units to be created even after continuous deliberations for the past three days.

KATHMANDU, Sept 29: Commissioners at the Local Level Restructuring Commission expressed strong dissatisfaction over government move of asking it to take previous area units (ilakas) as the main basis for restructuring.

KATHMANDU, July 22:  The Good Governance and Monitoring Committee of the Legislature-Parliament has directed all the Commissioners including the Chief Commissioner of the Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) Lokman Singh Karki to appear at the Parliamentary committee office on Sunday.
