Bisket and Sindur Jatras: Glimpses of two timeless festivals

BHAKTAPUR, April 14: On the occasion of Bisket Jatra, a 55-foot-tall lingo (pole) was erected at Lyosingkhel, Bhaktpur on Friday. This ceremony is considered as the main attraction of eight nights and nine days long Bisket Jatra of Bhaktpur. Thousands of Jatra lovers from neighboring districts Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Kavrepalanchowk visit Bhaktpur to see this special ceremony.

Bisket Jatra, often hailed as an identity of the cultural and historic town of Bhaktapur in the Kathmandu Valley, has begun Tuesday with the pulling of 30-feet-tall chariot of Lord Bhairavnath.  The Jatra is celebrated for nine days and eight nights. The chariot pulled from Nyatapole temple area marks the beginning of the festival.

BHAKTAPUR, APRIL 10- The Bisket Jatra celebrated for a week on the arrival of the New Year began here by towing the chariot of Bhairavnath from local Taumadhi.The towing of the chariot began Tuesday evening.

BHAKTAPUR, March 31: With almost two weeks to go before Bhaktapur’s major chariot procession Bisket Jatra, a big crowd gathered near Lyoshekhel on Thursday.
