RAUTAHAT, March 10: The sugar factories in Rautahat and Sarlahi districts are facing a shortage of sugarcane. As sugarcane farmers stopped cultivating, the sugar factories in these districts are not getting sugarcane.

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: The Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has disbursed Rs 800 million in subsidies to sugarcane farmers. Out of the total amount earmarked for disbursement in the last Fiscal Year (FY) 2022/23, which amounted to Rs 1.32 billion, the aforementioned sum has been paid in the current FY.

MAHOTTARI, Dec 22: Hiralal Mahato of Bhangaha Municipality-4 in Mahottari district, who used to cultivate sugarcane in three bighas of land, has grown the cash crop only in one bigha of land.

The government’s new price however has failed to please sugarcane producing farmers, according to whom the new rate cannot cover the escalating cost of production.

KANCHANPUR, Oct. 26: Wild elephants straying from the Shuklaphanta National Park have gone on rampage, destroying sugarcane farming at Laljhadi rural municipality-4 of Kanchanpur district. A herd of around 20 wild elephants went on a roadrage destroying sugarcane farmlands amounting to more than Rs. 800,000 so far. Farmers said that their calls to concerned authority to resolve the problem have fallen on a deaf ear.
