From the very first moment when we open our eyes in this world till the time we take our last breath, we learn every day. For learning to take place, there is no need to have a defined place or institute. In fact, we can learn anywhere and anytime through different means. However, the skill and knowledge which is acquired outside the formal education and training system is not generally counted/credited. In our society, people who acquire competency through informal learning never get their skills recognized. This has created strata in society and divided us based on work/occupation.

Helen Keller, Franklin D Roosevelt, Jhamak Kumari Ghimire are prime examples who have lived dignified lives contributing to the society. They are the ones whose physical impediment did not overshadow their dream.

Amar Nachsahani, 35, repairs generators and water pumps. He is from Patna, Bihar. He arrived in Kathmandu three years ago. He traveled with his Nepali friends and ended up working here. “I have been traveling to different places of India and Nepal.  But this is the first time that I have stayed back in the same place for three years,” said Nachsahani. Nachsahani learned the repairing skills in Patna with the help of his friends. He started working at the age of 15.

KATHMANDU, April 28: To introduce variety of cocktails in summer and create awareness about the versatility of drinking, Khukri XXX Rum is hosting a rum festival for the first time in Kathmandu, according to Shuvash Lamichhane, general manager of Nepal Distilleries Pvt Ltd. The festival started on April 24 and is slated to continue till the end of September with various activities in pipeline, said the official.

Sunsari Chamber of Commerce and Industry, Dharan is organizing a skill development training for locals of Dharan. Women Entrepreneur Management is managing the training session that began on April 7. As many as 30 people—24 women and six men—are taking the skill development training. They are creating different handicraft items made of bamboo such as pen holder, photo frame, wall clock, make-up box, fan, tray among others.

DOTI, Aug 12: For the first time in the district, Small and Cottage Industry Development Committee had offered gemstone-processing skill development training in Dipayal last fiscal year. KATHMANDU, July 24: Mukesh Chaudhary took a break from his work in Kathmandu in June and went his hometown to sit in final examinations of Grade 12. Chaudhary, 21, works at a construction site and earns to help his parents. Chaudhary has already earned skills in construction work which he neither studied nor attended any training.
