KATHMANDU, May 4: Of the seven provinces in Nepal, Province 1 has been worst-affected by the pandemic of coronavirus disease. Province 1 has witnessed the highest number of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases. As of Monday, 31 COVID-19 cases have been reported in the province. Of the 75 confirmed COVID-19 cases in the country, none is from Karnali Province.
RUPANDEHI, May 4: High alert measures have been placed in Province 5 following the confirmation of 17 coronavirus infection cases in just two days. Seventeen people were confirmed to have contracted the virus in the province last Saturday and Sunday. A man from Rupandehi, who had been working at a tailor’s shop in Gandhinagar, India, was said to have transmitted the virus infection to others. He arrived in the province at 1.00 pm on April 7 from his workplace at Gandhinagar.
BUTWAL, May 1: Province 5 reported a COVID-19 case for the first time on Friday as two men tested positive for this deadly virus via the PCR method conducted at the Kathmandu-based National Public Health Laboratory.

While free Science tuition classes are being offered at 742 and Mathematics at 888 schools under the initiative taken by the Social Development Ministry, school teachers and other stakeholders have criticized it as a populist program of the government.

BUTWAL, April 6: On February 14, chief minister (CM) of Province 5, Shankar Pokharel, came to the streets and participated in a road cleanup program in Butwal, the temporary capital of the province. He did not only pick the garbage on the roadside but also got into the sewers. The team including the CM, high-level government officials, mayor and deputy mayor of Butwal Sub-metropolis participated in the cleanup campaign. Later, the collected waste was disposed on the banks of the Tinau River.

BUTWAL, Dec 5: Four months ago, existing tourism offices in Bhairahawa of Rupandehi district and Nepalgunj of Banke district were dissolved and the responsibility of handling the local tourism businesses was given to the provincial government. However, the provincial government is yet to establish any entity or mechanism to facilitate tourism-based businesses.
