Stand-up comedian Pranesh Gautam who was arrested for reviewing ‘Bir Bikram 2’ was released on Sunday. The Kathmandu District Court has ordered for his release in a general date.

KATHMANDU, June 17: Following an order of the Kathmandu District Court, police on Sunday released standup comedian Pranesh Gautam, 25. He was arrested a few days ago on the charge of posting a 'foul-mouthed' review of the movie Bir Bikram 2 on Youtube.

It all started on May 22, after Pranesh Gautam posted a review of Nepali film, ‘Bir Bikram 2’ on meme Nepal’s official YouTube channel. #FreePraneshGautam #MemeNepal #FreedomOfSpeech #BirBikram2

Pranesh Gautam, a young comedian, is in custody for the last one week simply because he made a critical and satirical review of Nepali movie Bir Bikram 2. Police authority has not shown any sign of setting him free despite protests from youths, civil society and social media users for his release.
