The ambassador who set a new norm

I first met Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri, who is returing to New Delhi next week after serving his term in Nepal for around three years,  in May, 2017 in the Indian embassy.  The embassy was organizing a ‘familiarization tour to India’ and I was one among the participants.

Indian Ambassador to Nepal Manjeev Singh Puri is returning home from Kathmandu next week, and he will be retiring from Indian Foreign Service as well.  Puri was largely seen as an important figure in helping improve Nepal-India ties.

Some waiters donning Pagri—a Punjabi traditional cap, welcoming the guest with drinks in matkas at the entrance. Meanwhile, Indian Ambassador to Nepal, Manjeev Singh Puri cut the ribbon. Eventually, Ambassador Puri strolled some distance and enthralled the guests by playing a dhol. It felt like a Punjabi dhaba—roadside eatery in Punjab.

KATHMANDU, Sep 1: Nepal and India have signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for carrying out a preliminary technical study to build an electrical railway connecting Kathmandu with Raxaul. Secretary of the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport Madhusudan Adhikari and Indian Ambassador Manjeev Singh Puri signed the MoU in Kathmandu on Friday. Prime Minister Khadga Prasad Oli and his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi witnessed the signing ceremony.
