KATHMANDU, July 26: The Election Commission (EC) has revealed that over Rs 5 billion was spent for conducting the local level election held on May 13. The figure, however, does not include the expenses made by the security agencies, including the temporary police.

Nepal recently concluded its second local election on May 13, 2022, following the adoption of the federal system of governance by the country. The results of polls have also been published. But, the number of Dalit community representatives in the local election has decreased than in the past. Since Dalits are considered as the lowest social strata in the traditional Hindu caste system, also characterized as 'Untouchable', while comparing the number of Dalit representatives elected through the elections of 2017 with this year’s,  the number of Dalit people elected as the chiefs and mayors is only one percent of the total number of such positions.

LAHAN, May 17: Tensions have risen in Laxmipur Pattari Rural Municipality-4 of Siraha after more votes were found in the ballot boxes than the total number of votes cast. As many as 823 more votes were found in the ballot box, which was more than the total votes cast in Ward 4 of the rural municipality.

ROLPA, May 16: Nepali Congress (NC) candidate has been elected to the post of chairman of Rolpa's Gangadev Rural Municipality. Hari Bahadur Pun of the NC got 2,548 votes while his closest rival Roshan Kumar Wali of the CPN-UML got 2,499 votes.
