KATHMANDU, July 1: A total of 120 international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) are mobilizing funds worth Rs 93.61 billion in a number of the projects, most of which are related to social infrastructures and livelihood programs operating in various parts of Nepal.

Federal govt must oversee INGOs

A high-level commission has recommended that the federal government oversee the activities of INGOs and all three tiers of government—federal, provincial and local—register and monitor NGOs operating in Nepal.

GORKHA, July 31: The pace of work of the NGOs and INGOs working for reconstruction in Gorkha district, the epicenter of the 2015 earthquakes, is even slower than that of the government, it has been observed.

KATHMANDU, July 17: Over Rs 23 billion was spent through various INGOs in the 22 tarai districts of the country during fiscal year 2016/017, it is learnt. A total of 74 INGOs had channelled Rs 23.85 billion through 745 projects in the tarai, which includes the country’s southern plans from Jhapa district in the east to Kanchanpur in the west.

GORKHA, April 7: The District Administration Office (DAO), Gorkha, has urged I/NGOs working in the district for post-earthquake reconstruction to pause their work until the local elections were held.  In a meeting organized by DAO, Jitendra Basnet, chief district officer (CDO), Gorkha   informed the chiefs of various organizations not to do anything which obstructs the local level elections.

SINDHUPALCHOWK, Feb 15: Following complaints of financial irregularities in various NGOs and INGOs involved in post-earthquake reconstruction works in Sindhupalchowk, the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) of parliament has started an investigation into the matter.

KATHMANDU, Jan 26: Various international non-governmental organizations (INGOs) and local NGOs involved in the reconstruction of health posts and other health institutions in the earthquake-affected districts are found constructing such structures without having their building designs approved from the government authorities. VDC secys upset by I/NGOs non-cooperation

GORKHA, Sept 17: Village Development Committee (VDC) secretaries in various parts of Gorkha are unaware about the activities being carried out by I/NGOs.

GORKHA, Aug 30: Save the Children, too, seems to be in no hurry. It has been five months since the organization signed an agreement with the government for constructing the building of Antar Jyoti Higher Secondary School of Takukot VDC. But the construct has not begun so far.

GORKHA, Aug 19: Locals of Gorkha - the epicenter of the 25 April 2016 earthquake - have expressed their outrage to the INGO's acts of haphazard spending of aid money in the district.

KATHMANDU, Aug 2: National Information Commission (NIC) has asked all I/NGOs to respect the Right to Information (RTI) Act and disseminate information related to their activities to the general public on a regular basis to ensure transparency and accountability.
