In Nepal, a disturbing trend is on the rise lately. Influential politicians and businessmen facing legal troubles seem to have found a new strategy to avoid police detention-- getting admitted to hospital. This misuse of provisions meant for those with genuine health issues not only raises questions about the sanctity of law, but also reinforces the perception that the law is meant only for the poor and those without access to the power corridors.

Health insurance program commences in KMC

KATHMANDU, Dec 27: The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) is going to implement a health insurance program.

Agitating docs suspend protest

KATHMANDU, April 13: The agitating doctors have postponed their protest and have decided to return to their respective workplaces from Sunday.

Nepal’s essential service sectors—such as hospitals and educational institutions—have been victims of protests and obstructions. Whenever the employees therein have to express their resentment with the government’s decisions and policies they resort to protests, halting services and in the process causing great inconvenience to service seekers.

KATHMANDU, April 6: Around 50,000 patients coming to government hospitals across the country have been affected by a doctors' strike . Doctors at the government hospitals have halted all services except emergency from Friday onwards, to protest the government's move to adjust them under the federal structure as per a newly-introduced civil service policy.
