While the decision to import one million tons of paddy and 100,000 tons of rice is undoubtedly a positive step towards addressing the immediate challenge, it should not overshadow the need for comprehensive and sustained efforts to achieve food security in Nepal.

The challenges Nepal faces in protecting its agricultural land and ensuring food security for its citizens are huge. The implementation of land use policies and regulations, as well as the conversion of farmland for non-agricultural purposes, remain major issues that require urgent attention.

KATHMANDU, Feb 11: Experts have suggested that the government should take precautions in food security as the lack of winter rain due to climate change may cause problems in the food cycle.

The winter season in Nepal is known for its abundant rainfall that replenishes the soil and sustains the livelihoods of the people in the country. However, this year, the country is facing a crisis due to the lack of winter rains, which has raised concerns about food security and environmental consequences.

There are two basic objectives of the management of the food security chain: ensuring that adequate food is produced to satisfy consumer demand and supply to meet the minimum nutritional requirement.

KATHMANDU, June 17: COVID-19 has increased food insecurity by 8 percentage points, a national survey showed. A household-level survey conducted in April has shown that 23 percent of the households had inadequate food consumption, which is higher by 8 percentage points than the Annual Household Survey-(2016/17),  which states that 15 percent of households in Nepal consume inadequate diet.
