KATHMANDU, March 16: Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has decided not to renew the shutter rental agreements made by community schools within the metropolis.

Computer classes without a computer!

ROLPA, Jan 25: The importance of computer literacy in the digital world needs no exaggeration. Computer as a subject is thus taught at both community and private schools the countrywide. However, not all schools in the rural zones have computers. A case in a point is Indreshwari Secondary School of Khewase village of Rolpa Municipality - 3 where students do attend a 'computer class' but they have not seen one.

ROLPA, Jan 19: The free tuition classes of Science and Mathematics at different community schools of the 12 districts of Province 5 in view of the nearing Secondary Education Examination (SEE) have drawn flak.  While free Science tuition classes are being offered at 742 and Mathematics at 888 schools under the initiative taken by the Social Development Ministry, school teachers and other stakeholders have criticized it as a populist program of the government.

JUMLA, Nov 25: Pujan Kumar Upadhyay, a 10th grader at Kanakasundari Secondary School of Jumla sat for his terminal examinations recently. He performed poorly. In the examinations, he was asked questions from the chapters which were not taught by the teachers yet. "It was the same for English, Maths and Science. We were asked questions from the chapters which were never discussed in the classroom," he reported.

PALPA, July 21: Rambha Rural Municipality has introduced mid-day meal as well as accident\health insurance cover for school-going children of up to the fight grade of all 37 community schools in the rural municipality.

ROLPA, June 29: A visually-impaired student, Lokesh Dangi of Balkalyan Secondary School at Liwang, Rolpa, has topped the SEE (Secondary Education Examination) in the district. With a GPA of 3.55, Dangi has scored the highest from the community schools running in the district. Along with Dangi, his elder brother Shishir Dangi has also scored a GPA of 3.5.

SINDHULI, May 25: Girls studying at the community schools in the rural parts of the country often skip their classes while menstruating. The unavailability of sanitary pads is considered a major reason forcing girls to skip school, every month, hampering their education.

ROLPA, Nov 28: Of the 407 community schools in Rolpa, 232 do not have even a single government teacher’s quota and only a very few of the schools have proper building or classrooms. In the lack of such resources schools here are operated in a pathetic condition that is affecting the education of thousands of children.
