KATHMANDU, Dec 23: French serial killer Charles Sobhraj, responsible for multiple murders in the 1970s across Asia, told AFP he felt "great" after being released from prison in Nepal where he served almost 20 years.

KATHMANDU, Dec 23: The Department of Immigration (DoI) is making necessary preparations to deport Charles Sobhraj, who has been released from jail following an order from the Supreme Court. The DoI will be issuing flight tickets to deport Sobhraj as soon as possible.

KATHMANDU, Nov 23: French serial killer Charles Sobhraj nicknamed ‘the serpent’ and ‘the bikini killer’, whose string of murders across Asia in the 1970s was portrayed in the Netflix series "The Serpent", has been released from the central jail, Kathmandu.

KATHMANDU, Dec 21: The Supreme Court has ordered the government to release French serial killer Charles Sobhraj from jail. A division bench of justices Sapana Pradhan Malla and Til Prasad Shrestha ordered the government to release Sobhraj from jail.

KATHMANDU, Jan 10: The government has submitted a written reply to the Supreme Court in the case of Charles Gurmukh Sobhraj, a French national convicted of a notorious crime. Sobhraj filed a writ petition at the Supreme Court on December 22 demanding that the government ‘provide relief to senior citizens’.

KATHMANDU, Dec 24: The Supreme Court has issued a show cause notice in the name of the government in response to a habeas corpus petition filed claiming that prisoner Charles Sobhraj has completed his jail term as per the ‘concessions’ entitled to senior citizens of Nepal.

The BBC has made an eight-part TV drama on Charles Sobhraj in a co-production with Netflix.  Sobhraj will be played by the internationally renowned Tahar Rahim, who was cast in The Looming Tower, a drama about the Al Qaeda attack on the World Trade Center, as Ali Soufan, a Muslim Lebanese-American FBI agent.

Actor Jenna Coleman has joined the cast of Netflix and BBC's upcoming drama ‘The Serpent’, based on French thief and serial killer of Vietnamese and Indian origin, Charles Sobhraj.
