Brought up in a Brahmin family, I have experienced different practices done by girls in the name of religion and culture. Among those practices the most common and  unwanted  is that of treating a girl during her menstruation. A girl being physically weak in those 4 days of month has to face not only those cramps and pains but has to confront situations of being addressed as   ‘impure’.

Chakra Padi Lamichhaney, 63, has been working as a priest for more than 19 years. Born to a Brahmin family, he was well acquainted with Hindu ceremonial practices from a young age. He makes his living by practicing religious services. His sons often lend him a hand in his work.

DAILEKH, Aug 27: The Brahmin society of Dailekh did not tie the sacred thread around the wrists of the locals on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan on Sunday expressing their dissatisfaction over excluding their rights in the recently introduced civil code. According to the locals, the Brahmins broadcast a notice of their inability to perform the ritual through local FM radios a day before the Rakshya Bandhan festival and refused to perform their responsibility.
