BRASILIA/SAO PAULO, Sept 7: Deforestation in Brazil’s Amazon rainforest rose for the fourth straight month in August from a year earlier, according to preliminary government data released on Friday, adding to concerns over fires already ravaging the region.

The Amazon rainforest in Brazil is burning for weeks, and smoke from these fires are spreading thousands of miles away. On August 19, it blotted out the sun over Sao Paulo, the nation’s largest city.
