BUTWAL, Sept 28: A young man who assaulted Mayor Shiva Raj Subedi of Butwal Sub-metropolitan City, has been released from police custody after paying the bail. Mayor Subedi was punched in the face by Ganesh Pangeni during his visit to flood-hit areas on  September 20.

According to Madan Kunwar, Deputy Superintendent of Police of Butwal Area Police, Pangeni was released after posting a bail of Rs 5,000.

Pangeni is also one of the victims of floods from Jyotinagar. He assaulted the mayor during the latter’s ‘inspection visit’ to the flood-hit areas.

Pangeni is also a member of the All Nepal National Free Students Union (ANNFSU) of Rupandehi district under the CPN-UML. He was kept in custody for five days for investigation. According to Mayor Subedi, who is also the UML Chairman for Rupandehi district, the party decided not to take any legal action against Pangeni because he, too, is a youth leader of UML.
