KATHMANDU, Dec 25: Pasa Puchah Guthi UK (PPGUK) London held its second Yomari Punhi event in Wembley, London with nearly 100 members and supporters on Saturday.

As per a press statement released by Pasa Puchah Guthi UK, senior executive, Kiran Manandhar welcomed everyone with greetings for Yomari Punhi. Founding President, Amrit Ratna Sthapit spoke on the importance of ‘daana’- the act of giving, and the tradition of giving away Yomaris during Yomari Punhi.

A total of 15 kids present at the event participated in an hour workshop on how to cook yomari. They participated actively with creative ideas and prepared their own yomari under the supervision of executive member Nhyoumila Tuladhar.

Likewise, a quiz contest based on ‘Yomari’ was conducted by General Secretary Sandeep Shrestha and Cultural Secretary Pranisha Shakya. While the questions related to the tradition of Yomari Punhi were prepared by author Bimal Prabha Bajracharya, Vice-President Rukmani Manandhar gave away prizes to the winner.

President of PPGUK London, Sanyukta Shrestha introduced the audience to a computer game titled ‘Yomariman’ - a new fictional Nepali Superhero, as per the press statement. He informed that the game has been developed as an entertaining way to educate kids about the Yomari-culture and the importance of charity. The game was released by Cathy Manandhar, who had been involved with managing kids associated with the Guthi since its formative years. The game is now available for free download from Guthi’s official website. 

Maintaining the tradition of Yomari Punhi, all executive members and guests sang the traditional Yomari song ‘Tyo-Chhi-Tyo’ led by Nepalbhasha Poetess Gyani Shova Tuladhar. Over 225 Yomaris were then distributed to everyone present at the event.
