JANAKPURDHAM, Dec 12: Chairman of Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) Upendra Yadav has stressed the need for amending the Constitution. Addressing the inaugural ceremony of the 14th General Convention of Nepali Congress (NC), Chairman Yadav emphasized amending the constitution.

On the occasion, Chairman Yadav opined that inclusive representation is the key to strengthening democracy.

Stating that there should not be any further delay in amending the Constitution, resolving the citizenship issue and fulfilling the commitments made in the past, Yadav said, “Political instability, distraction and confusions should be addressed removing the shortcomings of the past.” He also stressed the need for a change in the electoral system and the government. “The Constitution should be amended immediately so that the people do not need to stage protests for democracy,” Chairman Yadav said.

Meanwhile, Chairman Mahantha Thakur of the Democratic Socialist Party mentioned that the erstwhile government under the leadership of KP Sharma Oli had freed 139 leaders and cadres from prison and that the current government should resolve the issues which are yet to be solved. “I want to thank KP Sharma Oli for releasing the 139 leaders and cadres. We also urge the government to address the remaining issues,” Thakur said.

Stating that no protests should be suppressed, Chairman Thakur stressed the need for resolving the remaining issues of Madhesh. He warned of a scenario similar to a volcanic eruption if the issues are not addressed.
