KATHMANDU, Oct 9: The Norwegian Nobel Committee has decided to award the 2020 Nobel Peace Prize to the World Food Program (WFP).

According to the committee, the WFP has been felicitated with the award for its efforts to combat hunger and create a conducive environment for peace in conflict-affected areas. The WFP has also been recognized for its role as a driving force in efforts to prevent the use of hunger as a weapon of war and conflict.

Established in 1961, the WFP is a food-assistance branch of the United Nations. This is the world's largest humanitarian organization that works toward addressing hunger and promoting food security across the world.
