NUWAKOT, Nov 5: Minister for Foreign Affairs Prakash Sharan Mahat on Saturday said the Nepali Congress (NC) had taken a leading role in implementing the constitution as 'it had tirelessly fought to promulgate the constitutional document'.

Speaking at a program organized by the Nuwakot-based village working committee of Nepal Tarun Dal, the NC's youth wing, to inaugurate a building for the party office, Minister Mahat said works were underway to amend the constitution to address the demands of some disgruntled parties.

For that end, he said, the government and the NC were holding consultations with the main opposition and other political parties.

Stating that foreign countries and donors had provided aid for the prosperity, development and implementation of the constitution of the country, the minister said he was actively working to bring in foreign investment and assistance acknowledging the fact that the country's development mostly depends on foreign aid.

Viewing that the country's diplomatic sector has been weakened due to the trend of politicizing a sensitive issue as foreign policy, he said he on his part approached towards neighbors like India putting national interest and necessity at the centre.

In a different context, Minister Mahat said Indian President Pranab Mukherjee's official visit to Nepal was successful and that Chinese President Xi Jinping would visit Nepal soon. RSS
