WOMEN SHARE UNCONVENTIONAL STORIES

KATHMANDU, April 1: Haushala Creatives on Saturday conducted its third speaker series, Celebrating Unconventional Women, with women who have redefined the meaning of success. The event was organized at The Women.co Cafe in Pulchowk, Lalitpur.

In the event, five women from different walks of life were invited to share their stories. The guests included 17-year-old national wall climber Panchamaya Tamang, transman and LGBTQI activist as well as Chairman/President Inclusive Forum Nepal Badri Pun, Co-founder & Co-owner of MP Luxury Bridals Mahima Uday Shanker Shrestha, Miss Deaf Asia 2017 Surabhi Manandhar, Jeweler designer and trainer Minu Bajracharya.

All the speakers shared their stories of their journey and success, their struggle with the stereotypical mindset of the society in each of their sector and how they overcame them. Speakers also participated in a panel discussion where they answered questions like what success meant for them, what challenges they face in their respective fields and the support or lack thereof from the government.

The session discussed the still evident dire situation of our society where women participation is still less in any given field, along with factors that lead to cause such situations and stressed the need for them to share the limelight equally with their male counterparts for the empowerment of women population as a whole. Sharing what they expect from the society or the authorities, they said was acceptance and free-mind. In the event, 15 different stalls were on display from the speakers and other women-led and women-involved enterprises.
