KATHMANDU, March 10: Chinese ambassador to Nepal, Yu Hong, on Thursday said that women of Nepal have made not only the country but the entire world proud with their exemplary roles in three most important positions of the country. She was referring to the positions of president, chief justice and speaker, all of which are occupied by women.
Citing that there are 29.8 percent women in the parliament and the head of state, chief justice and the speaker of the parliament are also women here, she said that the scenario commands attention and respect from the whole world.
“The government and women’s organizations of Nepal are committed to improving the status of women, enhancing their capacities in employment and development as well as taking care of and promoting their health. The Chinese government attaches great importance to upholding women’s rights and interests,” said Ambassador Yu while speaking at a function organized by the Chinese Embassy in the capital on the occasion of the International Women’s Day.
She further said that China is Nepal’s second trade partner and the relations between the two countries have continued to grow. “China is Nepal’s second largest source of foreign investment, second largest source of foreigner tourist and an important development partner as well,” she noted.
