Woman threatened by ex-minister Gupta is an accused in DIG wife murder case

KATHMANDU, Sept 6: It has been revealed that the woman, who former Minister Shyam Sundar Gupta threatened to kidnap, is an accused in the murder case of Gita Dhakal.

According to Metropolitan Police Circle, Lalitpur, Gupta has threatened Tara Regmi, who was accused along with DIG of Armed Police Force, (AFP) and the husband of Dhakal, Ranjan Koirala, who is currently serving jail term, for murdering his wife Dhakal. Regmi is on the run after being sentenced to 11 months in jail for her involvement in the Gita’s mureder.

Police have handed over the case of Regmi to the Kathmandu District Court.

According to DSP Ishwar Karki of the Metropolitan Police Range, Lalitpur, Gupta who was recently freed after serving a jail term in Dillibazaar had build up an intimate relationship with Koirala.

Gupta who came into contact with Regmi had been threatening her on various pretexts. The investigation on Dhakal’s murder case started when Koirala reported that his wife went missing from home since January 11, 2012, to the police.

The investigation started from January 12, 3012 through which Metropolitan Police Force Range in Kathmandu and Crime Research Department members came to a conclusion that Koirala was involved in the case. It was found that Dhakal was killed by Koirala in Posikot residence, Kathmandu and then later the body was taken to Makawanpur and buried near Metrang. Koirala was caught while returning home after burying the dead body of his wife. On December 26, 2014, the Cabinet decided to fire Koirala, disqualifying him to continue with his works in the future. Former Supply Minister Gupta, who was released a year ago after serving a jail term for kidnapping Pawan Singhai, has been arrested again on the charge of kidnapping and hostage taking and is currently under the police custody.
