CHITWAN, March 31: The father of a woman who was found hanging at her home in Devghat earlier this week suspects that his daughter did not commit suicide but was murdered by her in-laws.
The body of Bijaya Chhetri Basnet (Sushma) was found hanging at her home on March 26. According to Shyam Bahadur Chhetri, father of the deceased, his daughter often used to complain about disputes and conflicts within her family.

“She was time and again beaten by her husband while her mother-in-law kept on harassing her for not cooking good meal,” said Shyam Bahadur. He said that the condition of the body made them doubt it was a suicide case. “We hurriedly rushed to her home as soon as we heard the heartbreaking news. Her knees were touching the ground, there was blood coming out of her mouth. We are sure it's a murder case,” said Sumitra Chettri, elder sister of the deceased.
Chhetri has filed a complaint against the whole family. Originally from Arukharka, Syangja, Sushma had tied the knot with Ghan Shyam Basnet of Devghat on April 25, 2012. Basnet is a police personnel and is currently stationed in Simara of Bara district.
“Two weeks ago, I had consulted with her in-laws, including my son-in-law hoping to solve the issues. But that didn't help,” said Chhetri. As per the complaint, the deceased's husband, father-in-law, mother-in-law and sister-in-law have been accused of murder.
District Police Office, Chitwan said that the post-mortem report will be out within a few days. “Yes, we had some issues with her family members but we had no problem with our daughter-in-law. This is a sad news but we have played no role in it,” said Chandra Bahadur Basnet, father-in law of Sushma. Family members have demanded investigation into the case and action against the culprits as soon as possible. However, police are yet to establish the death as murder.
