KATHMANDU, Dec 12: A group of medical doctors has urged the government to cancel the process initiated for providing affiliation to Jhapa-based B & C Medical College.

Dr Arjun Karki, Dr Bhagawan Koirala, Dr. Madan Upadhyaya, Dr Ramesh Kanta Adhikari and Kedar Bhakta Mathema have called on the government to withdraw the process immediately, arguing that the government has already signed the deal with Dr Govinda KC to stop affiliations to any new medical colleges until a new Medical Education Act is in place.

“Providing affiliation to new medical colleges does not only constitute a violation to the past agreements signed between Dr. Govinda KC and the government but also questions the credibility of the Prime Minister,” reads the statement issued by them.

They have also urged the lawmakers to endorse the Medical Education Bill at the earliest and seek solution to problems related to medical education through the formation of a medical education commission.

Meanwhile, the doctors have suggested to the government to make sure that the clauses to be put in the medical education act will be in line with the report submitted by Medical Education  Taskforce led by Kedar Bhakta Mathema and commitments made by the government.
