KATHMANDU, July 27: Nepali Congress leader Gagan Thapa said that Dr. Govinda KC, who has repeatedly fought for reforms in medical education was a saint, not somebody who’d carry someone else’s agenda.

Following a late night 22 point agreement between the government and Dr. KC yesterday, Thapa urged everyone not to hinder the medical education bill when it is to be tabled in the parliament.

“Doing so would be another mistake, once again,” Thapa said adding that the medical education bill would benefit the nation. “No one will lose when the bill is passed in the parliament,” KC said.

“In the parliamentary party meeting of the Nepal Communist Party, they accused Nepali Congress of working to foil the negotiations. On the contrary, we’ve saved the negotiations. ‘Thank you to all because we’ve reached an agreement,’” Thapa said.

He said the government needed to be answerable when it forces a person to sit in hunger strike for 15 times for the same demand. “All of us have to take responsibility—from NCP to Nepali Congress, and anyone who expects to be in power in the future.”

He said that the government as well as the opposition should take responsibility to ensure that the agreement reached with Dr. KC is implemented with utmost diligence. “Nepali Congress will support the government to approve the Medical Education Ordinance,” he said
