JANAKPUR, May 8: Prime Minister and Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba has promised to resolve the issues of citizenship by passing the bill on citizenship from the parliament.

Addressing an election rally organized by the five-party alliance in Janakpurdham on Saturday, Prime Minister Deuba said the government will table the bill on citizenship and pass it from the parliament to address the issues of citizenship.

"We tried to table the bill on citizenship in the parliament to address the issues of citizenship. But we could not table it due to UML's obstruction to the House proceedings," the PM said while assuring table and passing it from the upcoming House Session.

In his address to the assembly, Prime Minister Deuba reiterated that upholding the five-party alliance is the need of the hour and warned that cadres and leaders going against the party's directive and alliance would be immediately booked.

"Party's leaders and cadres have to abide by discipline. Filing nomination against the party's direction and campaigning to defeat the alliance is not acceptable. We will immediately take action against them," Deuba said.

Prime Minister Deuba argued that the five-party alliance should be given continuity since efforts were made to trample the democratic republic and federalism brought by the people after a massive struggle.

Also speaking at the event, CPN (Maoist Center) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal said political stability and development in the country is possible only if the alliance is made stronger. He said that the five-party alliance was formed as a historical necessity.

Dahal argued that the five-party alliance is formed with the perception for a fresh beginning of development and prosperity along with the political stability in the country. The alliance should be continued in all three layers of elections to safeguard democracy, strengthen republicanism and meet the people's aspirations.
