KATHMANDU, April 4: The Commission for the Investigation of Abuse of Authority (CIAA) on Thursday filed a case at the Special Court against the persons involved in purchasing two wide-body aircraft in the past.
A case has been registered with a compensation demand worth Rs 1.47 billion. The CIAA has registered the case against them for committing corruption while purchasing two wide-body aircraft.
Nepal Airlines Corporation (NAC) had borrowed an amount worth Rs 24 billion from the Citizen Investment Trust and Employee Provident Fund to purchase two wide-body aircraft.

In the case, the CIAA has named the then Minister for Tourism Jeevan Bahadur Shahi, former Managing Director of NAC, Sugat Ratna Kansakar, former Tourism Secretary Shankar Adhikari, former Secretary Shishir Kumar Dhungana, Joint Secretary Buddhi Sagar Lamichhane, as well as Tek Nath Acharya, Nima Nuru Sherpa, Muktiram Pandey, Jeevan Sitaula, Achyut Raj Pahadi and six other foreign nationals as defendants.
The former tourism minister Shahi has been elected as a member of the Karnali Provincial Assembly twice. He served as the Chief Minister in the previous term and currently is a central member of the Nepali Congress party. As for Kansakar, he is not currently holding any public office.
