KATHMANDU, Sept 21: CPN-UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli has expressed his dissatisfaction over the silence maintained by the intellectuals and people over the honors and medals presented by the government to various people on the occasion of Constitution Day.

Speaking at a program organized to publicize a book on the biography of Madan Bhandari, Chairman Oli accused the government of trying to shut the mouths of the opposition against the distribution of the awards. He said that nobody was expected to speak against the government as the latter even awarded judges, lawyers and journalists on Constitution Day.

Oli expressed his dissatisfaction over the intellectuals and the people who always raised their voice during his time in the government for their silence even when the Deuba-led government distributed state honors and awards as if they were handed over from Ratna Park. “What if our government had done something like that? The award was even presented to judges as well. They have presented the awards to the judges and even journalists. Who will speak against it now? Oli said. What if I had done the same? What would the intellectuals say? What would society say? he asked.

Furthermore, Oli said that the government has been trying to delay the expansion of the cabinet. He accused the government of trying to create mistrust among the younger generation in the current political system.

Earlier on Sunday, the government presented various decorations, medals and awards to 903 individuals on the occasion of Constitution Day. While many accepted the awards, some people also rejected the awards.

At the program, Oli also talked about the contribution of Madan Bhandari to the politics of Nepal.
