Election of 110 PR candidates: Who are on the lists of national parties?

KATHMANDU, Dec 9: The final results of the elections held on November 20 have been announced. While Nepali Congress (NC) has become the biggest party by winning the highest number of seats in the First Past the Post (FPTP) electoral system, CPN-UML has got the highest number of seats in the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system in the HoR.

KATHMANDU, Dec 9: The final results of the elections held on November 20 have been announced. While Nepali Congress (NC) has become the biggest party by winning the highest number of seats in the First Past the Post (FPTP) electoral system, CPN-UML has got the highest number of seats in the Proportional Representation (PR) electoral system in the HoR.


Under the PR electoral system, the UML has won 34 seats in the House of Representatives (HoR). The NC, which is in second place, has won 32 seats. CPN (Maoist Center) won 14 seats in the HoR under the PR electoral system. As the parties have to ensure at least 33 percent representation of women in the HoR, all these parties have picked most women candidates from the PR list as HoR members.


There is a provision to election 110 HoR members under the PR electoral system. These seats are divided among the parties that cross the minimum threshhold to secure at least 3 percent valid votes counted. Only seven political parties were able to meet the 3 percent requirement during the HoR election.


Among the 34 PR candidates who are set to be picked by the UML as the HoR members include 19 women candidates. The 11 candidates belonging to Khas Arya from the UML are Raghuji Pant, Eknath Dhakal, Kumar Dasoudi, Dayal Bahadur Shahi, Khimlal Pokharel, Mukti Prasad Pathak, Menka Kumari Pokharel, Sarita Bhusal, Shobha Gyawali, Bijula Rayamazhi and Nirmala Koirala.

Similarly, the UML is set to pick 10 candidates belong to indigenous communities as HoR members. They are Devi Prasad Bhattachan, Hemraj Rai, Kaluram Rai, Bhim Bahadur Khawas, Nainkala Thapa Magar, Surya Kumari Shrestha, Urmila Thevey, Ishwari Gharti, Rankumari Balampaki Magar and Shanti Shrestha. The party also has five Dalit members for HoR and they are Ishwar Bahadur Rizal (BK), Prabhu Hazara Dusadh, Rukmani Rana Baraili, Harkamaya Bishwakarma and Indira Kumari Panthi. 


The five Madhesi candidates include Ganga Prasad Yadav, Amrit Lal Rajbansi, Bina Devi, Amruta Devi Agrahari and Pratiksha Tiwari. The party also includes two Tharu people and one Muslim member which are Satya Narayan Chaudhary, Asma Kumari Chaudhary and Ruhi Naaz respectively.


NC has allocated 29 seats of total 32 PR seats in HoR for women. The 10 candidates belonging to Khas Arya communities include Prakash Saran Mahat, Ambika Basnet, Sarita Prasai, Arju Rana, Ishwari Neupane, Pratima Gautam, Manju Khand, Rama Koirala, Kantika Sejuwal and Maina Rawal (Backward Area). 


Similarly, nine candidates of the party belong to indigenous communities. They are Gopal Man Shrestha, Saraswati Wajiyam, Lila Devi Wokhim, Sita Kumari Rana, Sushila Tamang, Sapna Rajbhandari, Maya Rai, Kusum Thapa Magar and Manorama Sherchan. Among 32 seats, NC has allocated five seats for Dalit people. They are Shanti BK, Rupa BK, Sita Mizar, Asha BK and Bishnu Maya Pariyar. The five Madhesi people include Bimalendra Nidhi, Nagina Yadav, Mukta Kumari Yadav, Chanda Chaudhary and Sangita Mandal. The party also includes two Tharu people and one Muslim member which are Kalpana Chaudhary, Bina Kumari Thanet and Zaveda Khatun.


Maoist Center has allocated 12 seats for women in HoR among the 14 seats in total. Here four people are from Khas Arya community and they are Hitraj Pandey, Peshal Khatiwada, Gyanu Basnet and Bimala Subedi. Similarly, four people are from indigenous community and they are Durga Rai, Mina Tamang, Urmila Majhi and Chiringalamu Lama (Backward region). 


Similarly, two people each are from Dalit and Madhesi community and they are Sushila Sripaili, Parvati BK, Meena Yadav and Umrawati Devi Yadav. The party has allocated one person each from Tharu and Muslim community and they are Rupasosi Chaudhary and Kalpana Miya.


The newly-emerged party Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) has got 13 seats in HoR and among this, four are allocated for women. Here four people belong to Khas Arya community and they are Dolprasad Aryal, Ganesha Karki, Deepak Bohora and Dr. Chanda Karki. Similarly, three are from indigenous community and they are Indira Rana Magar, Dr Dhaka Kumar Shrestha and Megh Bahadur Ale. Santosh Pariyar and Kalpana Rokka are two people from Dalit community while Manish Jha and Lakxmi Tiwari is from Madhesi community. There are one person each from Muslim, Tharu and Backward area and they are Asim Shah, Ashok Chaudhary and Binita Kathayat respectively.


Similarly, Rastriya Prajatantra Party has got seven seats in the parliament. Among this, five are allocated for women. Pashupati SJB Rana and Prakash Chandra Lohani are two people from Khas Arya community while Bina Lama and Binita Magaiya are from indigenous community. There are one person each from Muslim, Madhesi and Dalit community which are Nazia Khatun, Bina Jaiswal and Anisha Nepali respectively.


Likewise, Janata Samajwadi Party (JSP) and Janamat Party led by Dr CK Raut got five seats each in the parliament. JSP has allocated four seats for women. Prakash Adhikari and Sushila Shrestha belong to Khas Arya and indigenous community. The party has allocated one person each from Dalit, Madhesi and Muslim community and they are Sabitra BK, Ranjhu Kumari Jha and Shahnaz Ramman, respectively.


Meanwhile, the Janamat Party has allocated two seats for women. Dhan Bahadur Bohora and Dayaram Prajapati belong to Khas Arya and indigenous community respectively. The party has allocated one person each from Dalit, Madhesi and Muslim community and they are Rajesh Kumar Mandal, Anita Devi Shah and Jalekha Biwi, respectively.
