KATHMANDU, March 30: A video, which has gone viral since Saturday morning, shows a speedy van belonging to the Armed Police Force abruptly rear-ended a scooter along the Nayabaneshwar-Maitighar road section.

A woman riding pillion on the scooter had minor injuries after she fell on the road. The four-wheeler did not stop but kept moving on to escort a VIP vehicle, which was right front in high-speed.

As the social media users started lashing out at the APF and the government for the reckless driving, the Valley Traffic Police and the APF jointly have started investigation into the incident.

According to police, the incident occurred when the APF van with security personnel was escorting to former Prime Minister Lokendra Bahadur Chand at around 5 pm on Friday. The former prime minister was going to Nepal Academy, Kamaladi to attend a function.

APF Spokesperson Suraj Kumar Shrestha told Republica Online that the vehicle (Ba 1 Jha 9529) belongs to the Armed Police Force and now the investigation is underway regarding the incident.

"We have been investigating into the incident after media reports. Obviously, the video shows that there was so much carelessness on the part of the APF van," he said adding that details could be shared once the investigation is over.

However, Shrestha said that the security van should keep closely following the VIP as far as possible.
