Weather alert: Monsoon low pressure line moving toward Nepal, chances of heavy rain from Saturday night

KATHMANDU, August 6: After remaining clear for a week, the weather is predicted to be overcast with heavy rain from Saturday. According to the prediction, there are chances for a low pressure line of the monsoon to approach Nepal again from Saturday night.

“Currently, the monsoon low pressure line is located south of Nepal,” says the Meteorological Analysis presented in the Weather Forecast Bulletin updated by the meteorological forecast division.

However, according to the division, the weather will remain generally cloudy throughout the country until tomorrow.

The division predicts light to moderate rain with thunder and lightning at some places of Gandaki Province, Province 5, Karnali Province and Sudur Paschim Province and at a few places of Province 1, Province 2 and Bagmati Province.

There are also chances of heavy rainfall at one or two places in Province 1 and Gandaki Province until tomorrow.

According to the advisory for the next 24 hours released by the division, there is possibility of light to moderate rain with thunderstorms in Gandaki, Province 5, Karnali and some places in the Far Western Province and a few places in Province 1, Province 2 and Bagmati Province.

“People are requested to take necessary precautions as the flow of water in the rivers of these places may increase, with soil erosion and landslides in the hill areas,” warns the advisory.

The advisory further reads, “Road and air traffic may be affected with chances of outpouring in places where there is no proper drainage.”
