KATHMANDU, Jan 22: One of the two chairmen of the Dahal-Nepal faction of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP), Puhspa Kamal Dahal has said that they failed to correct Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli despite their constant efforts.

“We are compelled to come to the people after our futile efforts to rectify Oli,” said Dahal while he was addressing a protest gathering organized by the faction at the Exhibition Road in Kathmandu on Friday afternoon. He stressed that Oli’s regressive move of dissolving the House of Representatives (HoR) should be corrected by the people.

According to Dahal, they [Dahal faction] were compelled to join the people as Oli, who was also the co-chairman of Dahal before the vertical split in the party, took advantage of the generosity exhibited by them. “We made our utmost efforts to check Oli’s regression while in the party, which, however, was not enough to correct him,” said Dahal, adding that people should also evaluate them [Dahal faction] and help them rectify PM Oli. “We are honest to the nation. We are here to correct Oli’s regression as your sons and daughters. We are once again here for help.”

During his address, Dahal took most of his time to blame Oli for posing a severe threat against the hard-gained political system and constitution.

The faction led by Dahal and his co-chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal, has been holding a series of protests against the dissolution of the House of Representatives. President Bidya Devi Bhandari, on January 20 last year, endorsed the recommendation made by PM Oli and announced dates for fresh elections on April 30 and May 10.

In a show of strength, the dissident faction staged a mass gathering in Kathmandu, demanding the restoration of the dissolved parliament on Friday. The party claimed that as many as 100,000 cadres attended the gathering. After their marches and rallies at various places in the country’s capital city, they converted into a huge gathering at Bhrikutimandap, Exhibition Road.
