WCN begins its 8th wildlife photography exhibition

KATHMANDU, Dec 26: The 8th National Nature and Wildlife photography Exhibition of the Wildlife Conservation Nepal (WCN) started in the capital with a high turnout of conservation partners and photography on Monday.

Held at Basantapur Durbar Square, the exhibition is a culmination of the WCN’s 8th National Nature and Wildlife Photography Competition announced in June 2016. 

A total of 104 photographers took part in the photo contest.

More than 500 photographs were submitted on different categories of Flora, Fauna, Macro, Human Interaction with nature and landscape. The photographs were judged by the judging panel comprising Nepal’s eminent photographers Mr. Mani Lama, Mr. Raj BhaiSuwal and Mr. Nripa D Khadka and Mr. Sunil Sharma, Officiating Director, PR and Publicity, Nepal Tourism Board.

Mr. Ayush Man Kayastha won the Grand Prize while the category prize winners are Mr. RameshwarMaharjan (Flora Category),  Mr. Sanjay Maharjan (Fauna Category), Ms. ShreemilaBajracharya (Macro Category).

Similarly,  Mr. PrakashBudha (Landscape Category), Mr. Chandra Man Dangol and Ms. Nikita ShresthaShakya, Mr. Ayush Man Kayastha, Mr. Santosh Raj Pathak, Mr. UmidRatnaShakya (Human Interaction with nature) are among the Top Ten winners.

The program was inaugurated by Mr. PrasannaYonzon, Chief Executive Officer of WCN, with opening remarks.

The main objective of this festival is to develop awareness and interest in nature conservation among people of all backgrounds through the medium of photography.

The WCN is a registered Nepalese NGO initiated in 2002 to protect and conserve wildlife and to support biodiversity conservation sustainable use and bring equity to people on the wise use of natural resources.
