KATHMANDU, July 3: The Water and Energy Commission (WEC) Secretariat is going to keep records of water across the country. The commission will maintain an integrated record of how much water has been used in which regions of the country.
The commission will keep the records and will provide it to the stakeholders if needed. The commission will provide approval based on the priority of preserving water records for drinking water, irrigation, fishery, hydropower, and other sectors.

The issue was discussed at a workshop on water resources management and services organized by the WEC Secretariat in Kathmandu. The commission has also formed various expert groups to formulate a policy to keep water records collectively. The commission is going to take initiativeS for water and climate change management at the federal, provincial and local levels.
A group has been formed to make climate resilient water resources management and housing (water, sanitation, hygiene) inclusive. A group has been formed under the joint leadership of the Water and Energy Commission and the Ministry of Drinking Water to study these four issues and to include climate resilience in the policies and plans of the government for water security and water resource management.
The topic has been chosen democratically to make water resource management climate uplifting and inclusive. Joint Secretary of the WEC Kalanidhi Poudyal said that discussions and consultations will be held with the participation of the stakeholders. He said that the work of identifying and prioritizing the obstacles created by climate change was completed in the workshop. He said that there is a plan to formulate a strategy to address the obstacles by discussing the priority issues.
Four groups have been formed to discuss the problems in water resources management. Joint Secretary Poudyal said that all the four groups have identified the four main problems in terms of policy, institutions, statistics and capacity. It is said that the groups will discuss separately and formulate a practical strategy.
The government is expected to gradually internalize the group's strategy. The objective of the group is to create a sense of belonging in capacity building and local development by holding discussions with the concerned stakeholders.
