OKHALDHUNGA, May 15: A ward member of Likhu Rural Municipality-3 of Okhaldhunga district, who allegedly raped a woman of the same ward more than a month ago, was arrested by the District Police Office (DPO) on Monday.

Ward Member Bishnu Shrestha who was at large after being accused of the rape was nabbed from the district headquarters of Okhaldhunga, according to Police Inspector Rajeev Shrestha of the DPO. A complaint was filed against the ward member for apparently raping a woman working at a local brick kiln. 

On March 23, the woman filed a complaint at the DPO, accusing Ward Member Shrestha of raping her at her workplace. According to the complaint, the incident occurred on March 21. Shrestha's son claimed that police arrested his father when they were going to the DPO to discuss the complaint filed by the woman.

The accused had gone out of contact by switching off his phone immediately after the incident came to light. He is now under custody for an investigation into the case.
