Ward chairman who beat up a Dalit man for entering temple lands in police custody

BAJURA, Sept 29: The police have arrested Ward Chairman Juddha Ayadi, who beat up a Dalit man for entering a local temple. The police have arrested the ward chairman who assaulted Tekendra Sunar for entering the Nateshwari Temple located in Triveni Municipality-7.

A complaint as per the Caste Discrimination and Untouchability Act has been filed against three people along with Ayadi at the District Police office, Bajura. After receiving the complaint of caste discrimination and physical assault against him, the police arrested Ayadi.

Deputy Superintendent of Police Surya Bahadur Thapa said that Ayadi has been detained for further investigation and the search for local Rang Lal Padhyaya and Binod Ayadi who, too, were involved in the incident, is underway.

Tekendra Sunar, who hails from Budhiganga Municipality of Bajura and is currently living in Kanchanpur district, reached the Nateshwari temple for worship. Sunar, who entered the temple premises for worship, was beaten up by the ward chairman Ayadi along with two other people.

According to Sunar, the accused beat him up stating that Dalit people are not allowed to enter the temple. A photo of his face with bruised eyes and mouth was published on social media, which increased pressure from all sides to file a complaint. Sunar, said that he filed a complaint for justice with the help of Dalit rights activists.

According to DSP Thapa of the District Police Office, the victim has claimed that the accused also robbed him of Rs 60,000.
