EC to publish voter’s name list today

KATHMANDU, Jan 21: Election Commission (EC) has prepared to publish the voters name list of National Assembly (NA) election after the swearing-in ceremony of all provincial assembly members conclude.

KATHMANDU, Jan 21: Election Commission (EC) has prepared to publish the voters name list of National Assembly (NA) election after the swearing-in ceremony of all provincial assembly members conclude.


The National Assembly election will be held on February 7.   


The final voters’ list will be out on January 23 and a day will be set aside to register complaints against the candidates.

Candidates will be able to file their nominations on January 24 and the EC will issue election symbols to the parties on January 29.


Article 86 of the new Constitution has envisioned an electoral college comprising members of provincial assemblies and the chiefs and deputy chiefs of rural municipalities and mayors and deputy mayors of municipalities, for electing members of the National Assembly. 


Of the 59 NA members, 550 provincial assembly members and 766 local level chairpersons and their deputies will vote to elect 56 NA members. The President will nominate remaining three, including one woman, on the recommendation of government.


The vote weightage of provincial assembly member is 48 and that of local level chief and deputy chiefs is 18.
