DHARAN, July 3: Vote count has resumed in Dharan Sub-metropolitan City at 11 am after a hiatus of 4 hours. Vote counting had been halted from 7 am after Nepali Congress(NC) representatives did not reach the vote counting place in the pre-determined time as a sign of their dissatisfaction with the way vote counting is being conducted.

“Vote count in Ward 8 was completed by 4 am. Parties agreed to resume vote count in Ward -9 at 7 am. But the vote count was held in abeyance for some hours after NC representatives did not return to the vote counting place in time”, said Ganesh Prasad Khatiwada, Assistant Returning Officer. “Vote count has been resumed after 4 hours”, Khatiwada told Republica Online.

NC mayoral candidate Tilak Rai clarified that vote count was halted for some hours after they demanded that vote counting be systematic.

Rai accused Election Office representatives of being indifferent to the haphazard manner in which vote count is being conducted. He have also accused them disseminating conflicting information.

“ Vote count is conducted by forming many teams at noon. It is not conducted at night. A greater number of vote counting teams has caused inconvenience to each other. We ,therefore, demanded for the systematic vote counting”, Rai told Republica Online.
