KATHMANDU, April 18: The Valley Municipalities' Forum (VMF) Kathmandu has urged the workers not to leave the Kathmandu Valley.

The Forum has made this appeal after many workers started going to their villages in districts outside the Valley owing to the difficulties created by the lockdown.

The Forum comprising the mayors and deputy mayors of the 18 municipalities including the metropolitan cities in the Kathmandu Valley made this appeal during the consultation with Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration, Hridayesh Tripathi, and Minister for Industry, Commerce and Supplies, Lekhraj Bhatta, here on Friday.

"Travelling from one province to the next, one district to another and one local level to the next has been prohibited during the lockdown. So, stay safe wherever you are staying at present. We are ready to provide the required support," Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) mayor Bidya Sundar Shakya said. Shakya is also the Forum Chair.

The Forum also stated that arrangements have been made for contacting the related municipality ward office in case of any problem. Mayor of Madhyapur Thimi Municipality and the Forum's secretary, Madan Sundar Shrestha, also urged everyone to abide by the lockdown orders.

"Our serious attention has been drawn to news that workers were leaving Kathmandu Valley and walking hundreds of kilometers to their homes even in such adverse situation and suffering difficulties on the way," he stated in a press release.
