KANCHANPUR, Oct 18: Incidents of violence against women are on the rise in Shuklaphanta Municipality in the district.

The incidents of domestic violence have increased largely due to alcohol. Most of the complaints in ‘Safe House’ are about violence against women perpetrated by their ‘drunk’ husband.

Safe House psychologist Dwarika Kunwar said, "It has been found that women are being beaten, abused both physically and mentally." According to her, women have been abused over suspicion.

Similarly, 12 stranded people have been rescued. Psychological services have also been provided to 20 women victims at the ‘safe house’.

Complaints of violence against 50 women have been received at the Safe House in July, August and September. Pushpa KC, Chairperson of the Safe House Steering Committee, said, "We have been cooperating with the police on many complaints received."

Likewise, complaints of rape, child marriage and polygamy have been brought to the attention of the judiciary and justice is being provided to the victims. In some complaints, it has been found that even men are suffering from violence from women.
