Vikram Gurung performs at Paleti

Nepali singer based in Hong Kong, Vikram Gurung performed for the July edition on Paleti, Nepalaya’s micro event series. The session was held at Nepalaya’s ‘r’ sala, Kalikasthan from July 26 to 28.

On the first evening of the session, Gurung performed his 14 self-composed songs, in which he was joined by Meena Niraula on vocals.

The session was divided into three segments. The first segment was dedicated to Gurung’s musical ride followed by working with the legendary musician, Arun Thapa. Likewise, in the second segment, Gurung sang songs that were composed in his college days.

The Hong Kong-based singer worked with Arun Thapa in many songs that are both Thapa’s first recorded number and the hit ones. The first-ever Thapa’s recorded song, ‘Katai Tadha Timi Bata’ was composed by Gurung.

“When I met Arun, we didn’t have any original compositions. He used to cover Hindi and Nepali tracks. But after our meet, something hit the sparks that eventually led to having the feelings of coming up with our songs.”

Aside from Meena Niraula, Gurung’s Paleti sessions had supports from Sandesh Maharjan on tabla, Balaram Samal on basuri, Amber Gurung ‘Pokhareli’ on bass, Dinesh Regmi on keyboards, Suraj Pradhan on guitars and Paras on percussion.

Paleti announced the next month’s show in the event. And it will feature Lekali Samuha, one of the veteran Nepali bands founded 52 years ago by Hiranya Bhojpure, Ganesh Rasik, Urmila, Nirmala Shrestha, and Indra Narayan Manandhar.
