Vice president concerned about growing educational imbalance

BHAKTAPUR, Sept 10:Vice President Nanda Bahadur Pun has expressed his concern over a growing imbalance between the public and private schools in the nation. 

Laying a foundation stone of a multi-purpose building today on the premises of Sanothimi Campus, Bhaktapur, he said it was a matter of concern that the country's education system was moving towards imbalance day by day. 

"Government and community schools providing free education and education at affordable fees have a fewer number of students while in contrary a flow of students is increasing at private and highly expensive schools," he said. According to the Vice President, general citizen in the country are unable to afford desirable education to their children. The majority of students are out of quality education system. Children of economically empowered parents and those having the control over resources and other means of income have access to quality education. The situation of children from poor community and in rural areas having been deprived of better education facility has contributed to social inequalities which is not a positive aspect for the nation. 

He pointed out the need of improving the quality of education by community and government schools and colleges. He was of the view that only the guarantee of equal education would contribute to realizing the vision of a prosperous Nepal, happy Nepali. "Production of a good student sans a good teacher is not possible," he said, underlining the need of doing something to increase students' attraction to the faculty of education and to make it the choice of those performing well in the Secondary Education Examinations (SEE). 

According to campus chief Ramchandra Ghimire, the building is to be constructed at the cost of Rs 49.7 million. RSS
