KATHMANDU, Aug 15: Veteran cricketer Shakti Gauchan, who retired from international cricket earlier this month, was felicitated by the Expert Education and Visa Services (EEVS) amid a function held in Kathmandu on Tuesday. Gauchan’s felicitation was organized during the ceremony to assign Nepal national cricket team’s captain Paras Khadka as the brand ambassador of EEVS.

The 34-year-old was awarded with a ‘token money’ of Rs 150,000 to upgrade his Bhairahawa-based Star Cricket Academy. “We decided to help the great cricketer’s academy in a bid to produce skilled and talented players in future from the local level,” said Sanjeev Sharma, the CEO of EEVS.

“I really want to thank the foundation for the award. I fondly remember them as truly contributing to grass-root level development of cricket, when they hosted school and college premier leagues in various cities of Nepal some two years ago,” Gauchan said after receiving the accolade.

“Expert Education has been able to make a difference with their approach to respond to local demands of the nation. I will do my best to utilize the money to produce more such players who can go on to represent the nation in future.”

Gauchan retired from international cricket after playing the first match against the Netherlands in Amstelveen on August 1. He will continue to play domestic matches, and yearns for a farewell match in home ground.
