KATHMANDU, June 13: The main opposition Nepali Congress on Thursday said that the vacancies announced by the Public Service Commission for 9,161 civil servants in various positions at 515 various local units should be scrapped immediately.

Speaking at a press conference at the party headquarters, Sanepa, Nepali Congress spokesperson Bishwa Prakash Sharma made public the party's stance on the issue and said that these vacancies are against the constitutionally guaranteed principle of inclusiveness. Sharma also said that his party supports the recent order of the Parliament's State Affairs Committee to the government to scrap these vacancies.

"We hope that the Public Service Commission comes up with new vacancies in line with the Constitution to meet the staff crunch at the local levels. The PSC should immediately go for the new process for the same," he said. However, the NC is against recruiting the government staffers on contract basis for the local levels.

In another context, the NC spokesperson claimed that the party's ongoing public awareness campaign has become successful in terms of attracting fresh workers to the party. "As many as 31,642 leaders and cadres from the Communist and other parties have switched to our party since we launched the public awareness campaign a month ago," he said adding that the party has been able to win the people's trust.

Sharma went on to say that his party has managed to bring back the trust among the people through public awareness campaign. He said that his party would soon launch the second phase of public awareness campaign across the country.
