US Congressional delegation visiting Nepal

KATHMANDU, Feb 20: A US Congressional delegation led by Ami Bera is visiting Nepal from February 20 to 23, the US Embassy in Kathmandu said.

Bera chairs the House Foreign Affairs Committee’s (HFAC) Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and Nonproliferation, is leading a bipartisan Congressional Delegation to Nepal.

"The purpose of this trip is to assess US foreign policy and foreign assistance in Nepal. The four-member delegation will meet with government officials, civil society leaders, staff at the US Embassy, and the Millennium Challenge Corporation among others," read a press release issued by the embassy today. 

Prior to Nepal, the Bera-led delegation visited India and Sri Lanka. During their meeting with Indian top officials including Foreign Secretary Harsh Vardhan Shringla in the Indian capital New Delhi, they had expressed concern over the Kashmir issue, insisting that the Narendra Modi government release political detainees and restore normalcy in the region at the earliest, according to Indian media reports.

Other members of the delegation include: Representative George Holding, Member of the House Ways & Means Committee; Nikole Burroughs, Staff Director at the Subcommittee on Asia, the Pacific, and Nonproliferation; and, Sajit Gandhi, Senior Professional Staff Member at HFAC.
