Unity among six Madheshi parties 'very soon'

KATHMANDU, April 13: The six parties of the Madhesh based-alliance are likely to unite 'very soon'. According to the source, second rung leaders of the six parties including Tarai Madhesh Democratic Party, Sadbhavana Party, National Madhesh Socialist Party, Madhesi People's Rights Forum-Republican, Tarai Madhes Sadhbhavana Party and Federal Sadhbhavana Party of the United Democratic Madheshi Front (UDMF) are holding talks within the alliance to give final approval of the unification.

The chairperson of the Tarai Madhesh Democratic Party, Mahanta Thakur said, "The atmosphere is very positive. Though the talk of unity is not new, I am very hopeful this time."

"Second rung leaders of the leaders are in negotiations among the allies", said Thakur to Republica online.

Top leaders would finalize political and organizational issues afterwards, said Thakur adding that except Upendra Yadav-led the Federal Socialist Forum Nepal, all UDMF allies have, in principle, agreed to unification.

In the meeting of the top leaders of the allies, on Wednesday, stressed on the need of the unification without further delay. However, the meeting  could not make further decision as the chairperson of the National Madhesh Socialist Party, Sharad Singh Bhandari was not present during the meeting.

Sadhbhavana Party chairperson Rajendra Mahato confirmed that the talks are underway and said, "There are some issues that need to be settled down before the unification. Merger among the Front allies could happen anytime now."

"This is the wish of all Madheshi people. They want to see us strong and united. I have found everyone serious on need of unification this time. Let see what happens", said Mahato.

Leaders of other Madheshi parties were not immediately available for the comments.
